LOCATION Historically the continuously flowing Comal Springs was a popular campsite for the Lipan, Karankawa and Comanche Indians and during the eighteenth century the site became a regular watering stop for the Spanish on the Camino Real. Today, New Braunfels’ population is approximately fifty thousand and the surrounding area of Comal and Guadalupe Counties are projected to double in the next 15 to 20 years. While the city and area are booming, New Braunfels has managed to retain its unique combination of Texas German and Hispanic heritage. New Braunfels has become a world famous destination for water recreation with Schlitterbahn Water Park (rated best in the world), along with the canoeing, swimming and tubing along the Guadalupe and Comal Rivers. The LSTAR, the Austin – San Antonio Commuter Rail District estimates that the first commuter trains connecting the two cities will begin to run in 2012. |
